In my many years of working for airlines and traveling the world, nothing has given me such inspiration to paint, as has Arizona. I have traveled to over 100 countries during my career, and although they were diverse and offered abundant beauty, none offered the inspiration I felt after our move to the desert. The incredible beauty of the dawn, the storms, the mountains at sunset and the profound beauty to be found in Southern Arizona’s desert are at the least awe-inspiring and it forced me to be totally aware of the world around me.
I began to paint in 2001, concentrating solely on landscapes. I found that I could start painting and 6 hours later had not stopped or moved from my easel.
The pleasure and serenity I find while painting has continued and I enjoy challenging myself with new subjects and media. As time passed I have expanded into acrylics and collage, and now find that the world is opening up to me. I no longer have a favorite subject, but find I am intrigued by all subjects: still life’s, flowers, animals, scenery, design, buildings and most surprisingly, abstracts.
I have participated in numerous juried shows in the area, and exhibited at Desert Legacy Gallery in Tucson & Cobalt Fine Arts Gallery in Tubac. I am active and volunteer at the Tubac Center for the Arts and I am currently, President of the Santa Rita Art League in Green Valley as well as a member of the Southern Arizona Watercolor Guild & the Contemporary Society of So. Arizona. I look forward to many more years of creating art that challenges me and expresses who I am. I know my skills will continue to improve, as I devote more and more time to my passion.
My painting “Desert Spirits” was inspired by my love of the desert. I tried to convey the serenity, beauty and mystery it offers, to all who are willing to experience it, with an open mind. I believe there is enough excitement in the composition to successfully move your eye around the painting and keep you involved. This piece is in the current show, and I hope you will enjoy it and many of the works featured. Please contact me if you are interested in knowing more about my processes, my work or purchasing a painting.
